CONSTIPATION AND BLOATING

Health magazines and Doctors all advise us to eat more fiber. We are one of the most constipation nations on earth.

In an ideal world, we should have a bowel movement after every meal, but most people are lucky if they have one a day. Even having a daily bowl movement can mean you are still constipated.

Over time we have a gradual buildup of matter, which adheres to the wall of the intestines; this matter becomes compacted in certain sections. This build up is caused by insufficient fiber and too many refined foods. This can eventually inhibit proper assimilation of nutrients from diet and supplements. It also adds to the weight of the colon, therefore placing more stress on the lower organs like the uterus and bladder.

Millions of men and women have large protruding abdomens. This means that all the major organs in this area, such as the liver, heart and bowels are surrounded by a layer of deadly fat deposits. The large intestine is likely caring a lot of waste matter. Henry V111 had more than 84 pounds (38kg) of feces in his bowl after death and he had a very big stomach.

The absorption of nutrients happens in the small intestine. When food leaves your 20 foot long small intestine, it passes into the large intestine or colon where it is gradually compacted into semi-solid wastes (feces). The colon is primarily for breaking down food for elimination.

The more feces in your bowel the more toxic your entire system becomes If you are not eliminating properly. These toxins are re-absorbed into your bloodstream and can eventually be dumped into the skin resulting in a condition such as acne.

The rhythmic movement of the colon to move the material out of the body is called peristalsis.

Low fiber in the colon causes the colon muscle to become lazy and over time can lead to constipation. Also, if you over eat , food putrefies in the bowl, triggering symptoms such as bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhea, irritable bowl, poor skin, dull hair and so on.

Hemorrhoids or piles (varicose veins of the anus) are results of straining. Straining also contributes to varicose veins in the legs.

It is vital to call your doctor if you are experiencing blood or any changes in bowel habits.

FOODS to AVOID

All animal products, especially red meats, which have a long transit time through the bowel and can lead to putrefactions in the bowel. Eat in moderation.

Refined cakes, deserts and highly processed foods ferment in the gut causing gas and bloating as healthy bacteria are destroyed. If these healthy bacteria are missing, your digestion and elimination is impaired.

FRIENDLY FOODS

Rye crisp bread, Ryvita-type snack bread (all found in your supper market), and rough oat cakes all can be eaten instead of wheat bread.

Eat high fiber foods, fresh or dried figs, dried apricots and prunes, dates, almonds, hazelnuts, fresh coconut, and all mixed nuts.

Lightly cooked or raw vegetables

Low fat yoghurts and drink plenty of water.

In the elderly, a lack of folic acid has been found to be the causes of constipation… ask your Doctor if it is alright to take a supplement.
